What is Etch Primer?
Liquid Rubber DIY Etch Primer is a water based rust inhibiting primer for metal surfaces. It has been designed as a part of the Roof Restoration System to prime and protect raw metal surfaces and enhance the adhesion of our Thermal Coating.
The correct application ensures maximum coverage of the surface coating. Etch Primer contains rust inhibitor and is suitable for bare metal surfaces with light-medium rust - that has been converted - if heavy rust visible, must use Waterproof Sealant prior to Etch Primer application.
Ensure that the Etch-Primer is applied over a fully cured Waterproof Sealant and over the entire surface that will be coated with the Thermal Coating.
How much product do I need?
How big is the Area you want to prime?
Minimum 0.1 m². Use comma or dot for decimals. Arrow keys adjust by 0.1. Hold +/− to repeat.

What tools and equipment do I need to apply the Etch Primer?
Application is simple. Use a paintbrush, roller, or a spray machine for larger areas Basic safety gear such as gloves is recommended, and keep a suitable cleaner handy for spills and tool cleanup.
How do I apply the Sealer / Primer?
Allow any Waterproof Sealant to cure for at least 24 hours before applying this Sealer.
Disconnect downpipes prior to application and leave disconnected until rinsing either by water or heavy rain.
Wash the entire surface with water and allow to dry. Ensure the surface is free of any oils, minerals or loose materials before application.
DO NOT USE IF RAIN IS IMMINENT.
Stir thoroughly before use. Apply to painted surface by brush, roller or airless spray machine.
One coat @ 100 - 200 micron is sufficient, provided there is full coverage. Primer is ready for top coating after 2 – 4 hours @ 25°C.

What is the best way to prepare the surface for application?
Use a power washer to clean the surface. The surface must be clean, dry, and free of loose paint, rust, and other contaminants.
How many coats of Sealer/ Primer should I apply?
1 coat is sufficient.
When is the best time to apply?
Apply in dry, mild weather. Avoid application if rain, dew, or strong winds are expected within 24 hours.
What spray machines are you using?
We spray Liquid Rubber DIY waterproof sealant with a Graco Mark V airless spray machine. For the thermal coating we use a VEVOR airless spray machine.
